The FBI Is Locating Cars By Spying On Their WiFi
This appears to be the first case on record of this happening.

For this warrant, the FBI first used a pen register, which gets data from a
cellphone provider to monitor connections made by a device to other phones
or electronic devices.

The FBI then used a "ping warrant," which shows the locations of cell towers
used by a device.

The FBI further used a third method called Stingray which masquerades as a
cell tower in order to force all devices in a given area to connect into it.

Agents then picked the number they were interested in to locate the device.

Normally that would be a mobile phone, but a search warrant application
discovered by Forbes shows this third method can also be used to find
vehicles, as long as they have onboard Wi-Fi.

That's because car Wi-Fi systems act like a phone, in that they reach out to
mobile networks to get their data.

The FBI decided to use the cell-site simulator noting that cars like the
Dodge were "frequently equipped with cellular modems inside their vehicles.
These cellular modems are assigned a unique cellular identifier and generate
historical and prospective records similar to a traditional cellular phone."

The case highlights how cars are no longer just vehicles, but networks on
wheels, and all that data can be useful to government agencies.

Police can and have acquired location data from a car's airbag system or
brake light module. They've also previously requested location data from
companies that have in-car systems that track millions of vehicles' GPS
coordinates every day, including GM OnStar, and fleet management providers
Geotab and Spireon.

Which would be illegal and has been upheld by the supreme court.
You cannot subject unknown people to search warrants, let alone
interfere with public communications in such an obtrusive manner.

Stick to black helicopters and chemtrails.

Uh. Stringray devices have been in the news dozens (if not more) of times.

The delusional one is you. Our government ROUTINELY sweeps up innocents
when attempting to track down criminals.

Yes, it's illegal. Yes they do it anyway.

Where the fuck have you been? We know for FACT that the government has
cut into undersea fiber optic cables to tap into (and view) the data
passing through. This isn't speculation. It's shit they have ADMITTED to.

Crawl out from under your fucking rock. Assholes like you who believe
everything that LEOs do is "legal" are a big part of the problem. You
sit there with your blinders on, ignore the news (chocking it up to
Conspiracy Theory I guess), and then vote for assholes who want to
maintain the status quo.

[looking around] I didn't know I had a cuckoo clock! Now if I could
just find out where the hell I put it...

The fact is you were so quick to dismiss someone mentioning Stingray as
a conspiracy theory nut.

With a lousy 10-second Google search you would have educated yourself.

++++++++++++++++++++++
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stingray_phone_tracker

The StingRay is an IMSI-catcher with both passive (digital analyzer) and
active (cell-site simulator) capabilities. When operating in active
mode, the device mimics a wireless carrier cell tower in order to force
all nearby mobile phones and other cellular data devices to connect to it.
++++++++++++++++++++++

KEYWORDS: ALL NEARBY MOBILE PHONES.

ALL OF THEM.

Innocents and crooks alike. If you're in the range of a LEO Stingray
device, your phone is going to connect to it whether you want it to or not.

Then, when you make a call, it will be passing through THEIR DEVICE
before being relayed to the nearest cell tower.

++++++++++++++++++++++
The StingRay family of devices can be mounted in vehicles, on air
planes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles. Hand-carried versions
are referred to under the trade name KingFish.
++++++++++++++++++++++

Yeah.. HAND CARRIED.

Your mobile phone, right now, could be connected to one of these fucking
things and you would never know it.

All because the asshole 3 doors down is dealing meth... The Government
gets to look at every goddamn thing you do on your phone.

ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), alone, has used these devices
HUNDREDS of times. Well, they don't differentiate between the cell
phone a border hopper is carrying and that of a resident alien or citizen.
